They say dear reader that a picture can speak a thousand words. A brief few seconds of one’s life is persevered for years, centuries of telling each of its admirers a different tale. Add a dash of poetry to the concoction and voi-la. You have a beautiful, bewitching work of art. Care to take a look?
Today is my turn on the blog tour to review Take Me To The Edge By Katya Boirand (Published 16 May 2019) A big thank you to the publishers Unbound for my copy, always appreciated. And as always a massive thank you to Anne for the invitation to take part. I have been spoiled with poetry over the last few months, oh and how I LOVE it!
About The Author
French born and half English, it was never clear where home was. A childhood on the Isle of Wight, Dance and Performing Arts School in Surrey, University in Kent then Paris and Acting School in New York meant life was always on the move.
Having travelled the world extensively, unable or unwilling to stop, I finally put down some roots in London in the Spring of 2013. Sailing across oceans, climbing mountains and discovering beaches would be put on hold (momentarily) in order to put pen to paper as well as moulding an acting career.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve documented my travels and written stories, screenplays and poems that are all tucked away in the piles of journals around the house. This will be my first collection of poems to be shared with the world!
Take Me To The Edge
A beautifully presented collection of poems accompanied by striking photographs of the people who inspired them
FIVE WORDS IS ALL IT TAKES TO PROVOKE A CHAIN OF CREATION.
That is what Katya Boirand discovered the first time she asked a friend for five words and then turned them into a poem, using the words and the subject as her inspiration. This spark started a movement, and soon Katya was asking friends and strangers alike for their five words of choice.
Take Me to the Edge is a selection of these poems, sitting alongside a portrait of each subject, in this stunning and joyous celebration of language, connection and art.
My Review
I love the idea of transforming five words from a friend or stranger into a poem. It’s unique and personal. I can definitely see why when Boirand started out on this journey it ignited a movement for her. The endless possibilities of never knowing what flower your poem will blossom into. It’s remarkable writing.
This book is a celebration of language and art, passionately dancing a tango as the sun sets beyond the sea. Contained within these pages are people from all walks of life, all with their own stories to tell. I felt connected and apart of something so much more than just a reading experience. These poems capture the essence of life, the good, the bad and the ugly. It was a pleasure to indulge in.
I will never stop being fascinated at how art and poetry can send so many different messages to each individual. Boirand’s poetry is not only captivating but intensely inspiring. I felt as though I had lived a dozen lives, experienced a huge diversity of emotions. The astounding images that Boirand’s words conjured was refreshing. A rebirth of poetry to the younger generation making it relatable and thought provoking.
It was interesting to read about the people who were involved and their five chosen words. Boirand crafted these poems out of a few strands of thread into a majestic tapestry, exquisite writing. It is clear that Boirand has the utmost respect for these people which is humbling to see as the world is lacking in human kindness and decency these days. Thank you for being a much needed breath of fresh air Boirand.
I applaud Sverlander for her charismatic photographs. Combined with Boirand’s words they make a fine feast for the mind. Each poem and photo is delectable. I found myself asking for seconds…make that thirds! I am greedy for more.
I give Take Me To The Edge By Katya Boirand a Five out of Five paw rating.
It just amazes me how five words can be sculpted into a tour de force. Simple but effective. Engaging and passionate poetry. I can’t wait to see what Boirand’s next adventure will be.
Don’t forget to follow the rest of the blog tour. Enjoy!
