Hot Love Inferno: A Dark Comedy Fantasy Adventure By Nicky Blue (Review)

Close your eyes dear reader. Take a deep breath. Now imagine a world where Basset hounds can talk, a half-woman, half-cockroach can be summoned to defeat your enemies and happy-go-slash-y samurai roam the land leaving piles of bodies in their wake. Terrifying and intriguing wouldn’t you say?

About The Author

Hi, I’m Nicky, I am from Brighton in England. I grew up fascinated by books like Roald Dahl’s Tales of the Unexpected and t.v. shows like The Twilight Zone. For years I played and wrote songs in an alternative rock band before going back to university and studying English Literature and Philosophy.

I now have a passion for writing fantasy and dark comedy fiction. I love stories that dig beneath the surface of everyday life and play in the shadow worlds that we all have. Outside of my writing, I recently worked as a translator on the planet KELT 2Ab in the Andromeda Galaxy. That didn’t last very long though as the commute was killing me.

I also write dark fiction and dystopias under the pen name Mr Blue.

A half-woman, half-cockroach fused in a bizarre gardening accident? That would be Mrs. Jittery Twitch, dwelling in the shadows of our misdeeds. If in danger, you can call upon her help… all she asks is your soul as payment. But she’s just a legend, so no need to worry.

Barry Harris is a 28-year-old man, still living with his dear old mum in a little flat above a hairdresser. His obsession with Star Trek and the martial arts won’t help him when he’s forced out on a date.

And nobody knows about the weird string of events that’s about to put everyone’s lives in danger. A trio of samurai warriors and the strangest offer of help lead Barry on a perilous mission to save the day.

My Review

Honestly dear reader, I found this book horrifically satisfying to read. I was gripped and devoured it in one entire sitting. Naturally I am a fast reader, but what makes me so is the writer’s ability to entrap me in their world and keep me entertained during my stay. Blue did exactly this and I was sad to leave.

I was curious about the synopsis of Hot Love Inferno and boy was I not disappointed. This is book two in the Prophecy Allocation series however you can read this as a stand alone piece which I personally did. I of course have every intention to read Escape From Samsara Book 1. Excited.

The Footnotes are key to this unique reading adventure. The Narrator speaks directly to the reader, like a tour guide showing them the sights and sounds of our character’s world. The Narrator is witty and clever, enlightening us with interesting facts and information. I won’t spoil it for you dear reader but when I discovered who said narrator is I was surprised and then had a moment of clarity and thought, “Ah yes, of course!” I very, very very much enjoyed reading the footnotes and wish I could have said person narrate my life at times, it would definitely be a giggle.

I hope you realise I am trying to educate you as well as entertain you? All for free. I’m like a modern-day wandering saint serving humanity, except more sophisticated.

Blue has a talent for setting up a scene and immersing the reader fully into the story. One of the many things I love about writing and reading is the way you can describe something in so many different ways. You can create images in peoples’ heads with the simple use of words. It’s beautiful and Blue works with it perfectly. Well done Sir.

“Curtains were being pulled back, shutters were opening, and pots of tea were being poured as the façade of ordinary life played itself out for yet another day.”

This book is riddled with dark and disturbing moments, yet they are presented in a humorous way to the reader. Moments you know you should be horrified at, that you should stop reading and turn away but you just can’t help yourself. You feel the sides of your mouth go and you’re laughing at the scene presented before you. Proper laughing and wondering what the hell has overcome you. It’s sheer brilliance.

I tried to stop him, but he almost killed me. If I hadn’t thrown a vibrator in his face, he would have cut me in two!

I enjoyed how the pace of the book began as a leisurely stroll which soon turned to a quick walk, then jogging which ended up as a fast sprint. It works well and complements the story. I didn’t struggle to keep up or overtake but simply enjoyed the ride.

I give Hot Love Inferno By Nicky Blue a Four out of Five paw rating.

I was gripped from start to finish, desperately needing to know how it would all end. There were parts that made me giggle and genuinely laugh out loud, so much so that my husband asked if I was alright. I highly recommend you give this a go and spice up your reading material with a dash of dark comedy that will leave you wanting more. It is a delightfully mischievous little read.

Grab a copy here and enjoy dear reader. We all need that extra pinch of madness in our lives. Without it, life would be very dull indeed.
